The Project
This project started as a service design competition hosted by D4SD for the World Design Capitol’s 2024 Design Policy Conference. Our idea won the “Most Innovative” award at the conference, and is now being developed by our team with the help of the City of San Diego.
My Role
UX Research, Design, & Strategy | Graphic Design
Our Goal
Design a resilient, implementable, and impactful solution for San Diego homeless shelters.
Background
D4sd
“Design for San Diego (D4SD) is a civic design challenge aimed at inspiring and supporting collective innovation on this region’s most challenging issues. This year, D4SD tackles one of the most pressing issues of our region – housing insecurity and homelessness.
Housing is a complex issue. Positive, long-term, and impactful change requires our community to think holistically to make San Diego equitable and affordable for everyone. D4SD invites individuals or teams to submit innovative proposals for new services, products, policies, and urban designs that could make a difference in key challenge areas: Health, Awareness, Upward Mobility, and Placemaking.” (D4SD.org)
our timeline
The competition submission portion of this project was a 4-week period where my team and I held brainstorming and ideation workshops, created a prototype, and prepared a presentation for the World Design Capitol Design Policy Conference.
Our Inspiration
The members of our team all have a passion for service design as well as community building and volunteering. I was drawn to this project as a way to improve the lives of those in our community who are often forgotten.
